F'ing Vertical Search Works

Friday I dealt with the high pressure sales reps at vertical search works. A pay per click ad company that just don't understand the word no. After his sales pitch I told him that I wasn't interested and that pay per click advertising is a joke. I informed him that the only reason that I even listened to his pitch was to waste his time because he was wasting our time cold calling us. Only to have his boss, supervisor, manager or who ever it was call me 15 minutes later asking why I hung up on the other rep so I informed him that I didn't like being cold called and that every review of them I found said it was a scam and they better not call us again then slammed the handset down. That brings me to the point of this rant I love old fashion phones it is so much more satisfying so slam the handset of a corded phone than to push the end call button on a cordless phone.

ISP Managed modems

All I can really say is wtf. My charter modem at home I have access too but the one they installed today at work they won't let me in to. Do you seriously expect that a business with an IT staff is going to call tech support to handle something they should be able to manage onsite? The at&t modem we had before we managed onsite so seriously WTF charter? Time for bourbon and beer.

Mouth breathers as sales associates

I walked into one of the local Mac retailers today, walked up to the counter and told the guy standing there looking like he had just smoked an ounce of weed that I need a non wireless router. He replied with so you want a modem? No I want an ethernet router. Then he comes back with so you want a modem? I just shook my head said "never mind" and walked out the door. I then drove straight to the other mac retailer and told the guy there the same thing. He handed me two switches before I gave up and told him to give me an airport extreme. You may ask your self why I went to them that is because I had already been to best buy, office depot and radio shack. Best buy is a joke. Office depot was the most helpful but didn't have what I needed. Radio shack just said they didn't have one. So I went to the mac retailers because they were the only computer places left in town and I needed the router today.

Proper wiring

When did the ability to properly wire a 66 Block die? I mean seriously it is not a complicated task incoming wires come in the top and out the side then you punch them down. Simple right? And if you have 4 lines coming into the PBX that should take one cat5 line not one cat5 line and one twisted pair taken out of the insulation and and untwisted. When pulling wire from the phone company's box if you only need one twisted pair you cut the extra three pairs off at the same point where you cut the insulation you do not roll them all together to create a ball of wire so big you can't close the damn box. Also when pulling wire is should not look like a damn spider web of cat5 leaving the 66 Block, cable ties are cheap USE them. To the idiot at the phone company why the hell did you install the boxes so close that I can only open the one on the right 45 fucking degrees before the door hits the one on the left.
Update: if you are rewiring something don't just jerk the wires out of the block and leave them hanging cut them back far enough that the next guy doesn't have 30 extra wires that he has to trace to see if they need to be hooked back up.
